why research gap is important.
From Dr OT post
LANGKAH PENCARIAN RESEARCH GAP – KENAPA MASIH TERGAGAP-GAGAP !
Bertanyalah aku – Apakah gerangannya sehingga meronda2 sebegitu rupa?
Katanya mencari bahan utk PhD…
1. jadi asas pembinaan persoalan kajian
6.. akhirnya menjadi asas tajuk kajian anda !
3. Setelah mengetahui secara lebih khusus “area of investigation” dgn beberapa keywords / istilah / terminologi / konsep, teruskan pembacaan secara lebih mendalam… sehingga anda mendapat “gambaran” isu yang dibahaskan dalam “dunia pendidikan biologi” terkini utk anda jadikan gap kajian anda.... bukannya isu disekolah anda, isu perbadi anda..... atau isu yang boleh memberi impak kepada KPM... atau mana-mana pihak.... tapi mberi impak kpd knowledge dlm pendidikn sains yg dibaca pula oleh scholar seluruh dunia..... dn at same time anda mjadi seorang researcher yg akan menguasai pendidik sains ... dan inilah impak PhD / master !
Apakah maknanya semua ini?
Semua ini membawa makna....
1. Research gap bukanlah “sesuatu kajian yang belum pernah orang lain buat” atau "kajian baru" .... sehingga calon master / PhD tergaru2....
Calon inilah yg bakal beri impak seterusnya sbg tenaga pakar negara... jika dia terus buat kajian... bukannya hanya bbangga dgn gelaran 'DR' pasti tu tak buat apa2..... satu kajianpun xbuat lagi.....sampai obselete apa yg dulu diketahui.....
AND, OR, NOT, *, “___”, +, -, ?, title, author, year, open acces, type dll…
Jika anda tak tahu amende semua operator ini…. anda hanya memalukan diri anda sendiri sebagai calon master / PhD.
Mmg ler org dulu2 xtahu pun benda ni siap gak tesis... samalah org dulu xder komputer.... siap gak tulis 3, 4 buku...
YOU WILL BE AMAZED dgn apa yang MEndeley boleh lakukan !!

Conceptual papers
This post i translated from Dr OT's blog . http://drotspss.blogspot.com/
Conceptual paper is an indepth analysis on a fresh idea which often infuses inquiry, controversy , opinion, argument , discussions from multiple perspectives and school of thoughts. Hoever, certain paper is no longer valid to be called as conceptual paper (e.g ICT in education) the topic is no longer "fresh" / novel.
Step 1: Preparing a conceptual paper requires a writer to master a "fresh" / "new" area, particularly on the selection of the topic. The topic must have a reseach gap that has a sense of urgency for discussion / debate which only can be materialised through intensive readings. As always, journals remain the main source of reference.
Preparing a conceptual paper , indirectly tests your ability to understand about the uniqueness of your research gap and your ability to discuss issues related to the gap from multiple perspectives.
For example:
When searching the phrases "“learn anywhere anytime"
The possible papers are such as:
a. Standing at the Crossroads: Mobile Learning and Cloud Computing
b. Mobile application for mobile learning – A new learning theory?
c. Will mobile application really influence mobile learning?
d. From e-learning to m-learning: Moving Beyond “No Significant Difference”
Another form of conceptual paper can be done via "meta analysis"….which review previous literiture (for the last 5-10 years) and the issue is still "hot" to be debated.
Example:
a. A Meta-analysis of educational computer games as learning tools in e-learning.
b. An application of ICT in classroom: Differences Across Problem Types,
Implementation Types, Disciplines, and Assessment Levels
c. Internet-based learning in science education: a meta-analysis.
SO, why not you publish your own conceptual paper even if you haven't started with your research (collecting data etc).

Contoh tajuk:
a. Standing at the Crossroads: Mobile Learning and Cloud Computing
b. Mobile application for mobile learning – A new learning theory?
c. Will mobile application really influence mobile learning?
d. From e-learning to m-learning: Moving Beyond “No Significant Difference”
a. A Meta-analysis of educational computer games as learning tools in e-learning.
b. An application of ICT in classroom: Differences Across Problem Types,
Implementation Types, Disciplines, and Assessment Levels
c. Internet-based learning in science education: a meta-analysis.

Synthesis
Many people have difficulties to combine what they have read into a single paragraph.
Dr OT , Othman Talib 's facebook he recommended the following strategy.
For example:
Context 1 – multimedia and learning style
Albert (2009) - "multimedia software has to accommodate students’
different styles of learning..."
Context2 – animation in teaching
Black (2007) - "Computer animation is highly potential in creating a sense of fun in learning..."
Black (2007) - "Computer animation is highly potential in creating a sense of fun in learning..."
Context3 – Computer software and cognitive aspect
Charles (2010) - "Current interactive computer software are constructed based on cognitive multimedia theory ...."
Charles (2010) - "Current interactive computer software are constructed based on cognitive multimedia theory ...."
Context4 - Computer software and constructivism theory
Don (2009) - "Multimedia learning is developed based on theory of constructivism...."
Don (2009) - "Multimedia learning is developed based on theory of constructivism...."
Context5 – 3D dalam pengajaran sains
Eugine (2008) - "The 3D surrounding creates an opportunity for visualization, interaction and exploration in understanding abstract concepts such as science concepts...."
Eugine (2008) - "The 3D surrounding creates an opportunity for visualization, interaction and exploration in understanding abstract concepts such as science concepts...."
5 papers à combine into one
single paragraph:
The development of
multimedia is now a need in the teaching of science. Nevertheless, the
effectiveness of the use of multimedia in teaching still poses doubts in terms
of students understanding. Previous researches have suggested the need for the
multimedia to be equipped with interactive 3D animation (Eugine, 2009; Charles,
2010 & Black, 2007) and takes into consideration the students’ style of
learning (Albert, 2009) which is based on the the constructivist theory (Don,
2009).

Jadi jgn takut2…. tulis jer.... biar berdesup-desup !!
